Last week was Motown week on American Idol. While I enjoyed a few performances, I still couldn’t help but think if Taylor Hicks would have been competing last week with the Idols this season he still would have come out on top. So I went on the search to find a song Taylor covered that would have fit into Motown week. “You Send Me” is a song Taylor sang on Season Five and I love it hearing as much now as I did then. Shortly following the passing of Sam Cooke, Motown Records released We Remember Sam Cooke, a collection of Cooke covers recorded by The Supremes. This album contains many great Sam Cooke Covers and “You Send Me” is one of them.
So Taylor would be able to sing “You Send Me” during the Motown Theme week. Below you will see Taylor Hicks singing “You Send Me”, Kris Allen singing ,Adam Lambert singing and Danny Gokey singing watch each video and then cast your vote on the side bar for the winner then leave a comment with your thoughts.
Kris Allen “How Sweet it Is”
Adam Lambert “Tracks of my Tears”
Danny Gokey “Get Ready”
Taylor Hicks “You Send Me”

A Turn in the Tide? American Idol Supporting Taylor Hicks.
When a tide turns, it goes in an opposite direction. That is just what appears to be happening with American Idol in regards to Taylor Hicks. I think it is about time. After Taylor won American Idol we heard Simon saying America got it wrong. We saw and heard Simon tell a contestant to stick her gum on Taylor’s face. Meaning the poster behind her of Taylor of course. But knowing Simon if it had actually been Taylor standing there we would have heard the same thing.
American Idol the past couple years have appeared to completely leave Taylor out of AI promotion. Hiding his posters behind plants and such, sticking it off in the corner of our TV screens and seemingly wanting to throw Daughtry (I have nothing against Chris just stating a fact) in the viewers face and leave Taylor out.
It seems that is changing now. We know Taylor will be on American Idol sometime this Season and AI has posted upcoming news about Taylor on the American Idol site the past few weeks. If you visit http://american-idol-updates.com/ now you will a piece about Taylor’s request for extra’s in his video. It is the 1st Article there. I am almost positive that is a first since Taylor won. (There is a pole there to vote for your idol to, while you are there. Taylor is in the lead so far.)
Now that Taylor is such a huge success in the Broadway production of Grease, is that why the tide as turned. Is this why American Idol is now remembering that yes Taylor did win Season 5? I don’t care what the reason is, it is just awesome to finally see Taylor getting support where he should have been getting it from all along.
Another thing I find interesting, is that with Taylor’s debut self-titled album, after winning Idol, there was NO music video. But now that Taylor has his own record company (Modern Whomp Records) and his album is Independent, there is a music video that is being shot tomorrow.
The old saying is If you want something done right, than do it yourself. Seems like this is going to be true in regards to Taylor Hicks and his music.

Awesome Taylor Hicks Tidbits
Just a couple bits of cool info those who don’t follow the boards might be interested to hear about. First the website My Rocket Science http://www.myrocketscience.com/ has some info scrolling on their news scroll bar. It says for one Taylor Hicks new album The Distance 3/10/09
But another ‘Amazing” great bit of news is it says “Taylor Hicks video here in early January”. I have a feeling My Rocket Science will be getting a huge amount of page views this winter along with the site Artist2Market www.artist2market.com . Finally what we have all waiting so patiently for a new song by Taylor Hicks and a “MUSIC VIDEO”. 2009 is shaping up to be a great year.
Another bit of news. It appears American Idol may be going to give some face time to the Soul man. The new commercial airing on Fox now showcases a little of all the Idols including OUR man Taylor. It shows the clip when Simon asks Taylor why was there and he answers “ Because I want my voice heard’ Simons reply why? “Because I think I got one” It is about time and I hope this isn’t a fluke and more promotion of Taylor shows on AI during the Season.

1 Month on, Has American Idol Learned Anything?
I have been thinking a lot about the woman who committed suicide in front of Paula Abdul’s house. Then Abdul was on Barbara Walters and talked about how she told American Idol she was being stalked by Goodspeed and to please not let her on the show. They let her on anyway for the entertainment value.
As fans of Taylor Hicks we have often noticed the way American Idol has belittled Taylor Hicks and even the fans, by saying America got it wrong. It seems the contestants are not the only ones that American Idol does not care about. Even their own judges do not rate the respect they should. If AI feels it will make good TV no one is above being hurt or embarrassed in the name of so-called “entertainment“.
I am starting to write for another site besides just Associated Content. At this site I covered the Abdul/Goodspeed/Idol triangle.
One Month on, Has American Idol Learned Anything?
by Cindy Wright Reeves, IndieNews.co.cc Entertainment Correspondent
It has been one month since Paula Goodspeed committed suicide near American Idol Judge, Paula Abdul's home. Today we ask, has American Idol gone to far just to make 'good TV'?. Because the audition phase of American Idol seems to be more based on making fun of people who feel they have talent, rather than finding great talent itself.
The entertainment factor is what keeps AI showing these horrible auditions and making fun of the contestants. We all know that sometimes making fun of a person can cause that person a huge amount of mental torment, but another big issue with American Idol and it’s decisions on what to air, and who to allow in to audition, that is currently in the news, concerns Paula Abdul and fan/stalker Paula Goodspeed. In February of 2006 Paula Goodspeed auditioned for American Idol. Simon Cowell, as always, was snide because Goodspeed had braces on her teeth, and Simon of course had to say to her that she had so much metal in her mouth, making fun of her. At first, when she walked in, Cowell was commenting about how much she resembled Abdul, which was not true, and Goodspeed told the producers, and the judges, that she was a huge fan of Paula’s, and that she had been drawing Abdul since she was a child.

Is it Time for American Idol All Stars?
I would love to see a season of American Idol All Stars. Bring back the best of the best. Of course if I had my way it would definetly have Taylor, Bucky, Bo, Kelly , Kellie and Carrie among some others. But I am sure that will not happen. But I wrote an article asking if it is time to have an All Stars season? Other reality shows have done this so why not American Idol. It may be hard with the hustle and bustle of the respective careers of the American Idol Alum but it could be done. We know Taylor must have built in generators as we have seen him perform when we thought he would be to exhausted or sick to do it, I have also watched Bucky Covington put on shows one right after another so it can be done.

Taylor is the Word- Grease is the Show

Taylor Hicks debut on Broadway as Teen Angel in Grease was Friday June 6th. I will not be able to make it to NY to see Taylor even though I would love to go very much and take my 13 year old daughter to see the sights and sounds of New York as well as see the best show in town, there is just no way I can afford this trip.
I want to see Taylor in this role very much as Grease is one of my favorite musicals, Footloose is my next favorite. So anyway I knew there was no way I would be able to see Taylor but thanks to the generosity of Taylor Hicks fans the video, audio and pictures are flowing all over for all of us who will not be lucky to get to NY to still experience our Soul Man making his mark on Broadway. Thankfully I can use copy and paste or Ctrl and D to share and bookmark all the great things to see and hear online. I would have gone through quite a lot of ink pens by now if I had to write this all down. Go here, here and here to see some great stuff from Taylor’s Broadway appearance. I know there will be lots more to keep track of as Taylor will be Teen Angel until September. Also go here to read what the lady playing Rizzo as to say about Taylor.

Taylor Hicks on American Idol - Let's hope it isn't just a rumor
We all have all been craving to see Taylor Hicks again. We need our Tay fix and we aren’t afraid to admit we need that fix. Taylor has been here and there from singing the National Anthem to being in Kentucky for the Kentucky Derby. There are events coming up this weekend but we crave more and more.
It is rumored that Taylor may be appearing in American Idol wither this week or next and the fan boards are all excited at the chance to see Taylor perform once on again on the American Idol stage. I have not been watching AI this season but I will tune in if Taylor is on.
Hopefully Taylor will sing a new song from his upcoming CD and announce a date for it to be released. For all of you nay sayers or say Taylor can not sing or looks goofy please get a hearing aid and eyeglasses. If you already have these than please get to the doctor quick, because they messed up your prescription.

Paula Abdul - Is she making a comeback?
I have always been a huge of Paula Abdul. When I was in early 20s it was Paula Abdul, Samantha Fox, Def Leppard and of course of Elvis Presley that you would mpst likely hear playing at my house or in my car. When I first tuned into American Idol it was Season 3 had heard friends talking about the show and they mentioned Paula Adul was a judge on the show. That was the only reason I even tuned in to check out the show. I did not get involved in the show much until Season four when we rooted for Carrie and then of course came the Season Of Taylor Hicks. I call it the Season of Taylor Hicks because that is truly the only person I cared about at all. I liked some others ok but it was only Taylor I wanted to be the next American Idol. So during all this I kept wondering if Paula would ever sing again. Forever Your Girl and Cold Hearted Snake as always be favorites of mine. But I had given up on Paula doing anymore music. Then the other day I saw this video and was thrilled to see Paula is back. I love this video and Paula sounds as good as ever. While I may not be watching Idol these days, I am busy watching Big Brother and Jericho and hubby has to watch Lost I still am thrilled to see Paula as a song out again and I hope this is just the begining. Maybe there is a Paula Abdul Album we can expect in the future. As far as Simon I think he is obnoxious and I have many reasons to think that but that is just my opinion. However if Simon was around much I would need a air purifiers.
Dance Like Theres No Tomorrow

Paula Abdul Get's It Right about Taylor Hicks
We have been hearing Simon say things about Taylor Hicks ever since he won American Idol, like America got it wrong and he didn't like Taylor Hicks and so on. We also read a quote from Randy a few weeks back blaming the American Idol's and contestants and not putting any blame on the way they are handled and the music they are told to make.
Now Paula Abdul has weighed in on the subject of Taylor Hicks. Paula's response is one of the best responses with the truth being told. Here is the part about Taylor Hicks.
Is there something we can learn from Taylor Hicks' huge popularity on American Idol and subsequent lack of sales successes?
Well you know, it doesn't, I would say this. Nothing takes away from the talent that these kids have. The talent doesn't go away. It's sometimes mishandled and sometimes misguided. And there are very specific reasons why people like Kelly Clarkson sell a lot of albums, and Carrie Underwood and you have the unbelievable talent of Fantasia Barrino and Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks, that don't get to have the same amount of sales…. However I do believe that maybe the album was not… filled with the right materials that suited them. I think that you have to take the right time and the right producer and the right rollout and the right support. It's not just based on they're not talented--there's a lot of factors that go into it that people fail to realize. The right team, the right marketing strategy. That is 90% of it. You have the talent: the talent is now a given. It's the other factors that go into it that predicate the success. Not predicate: but really, that's the success. If you don't have the right strategy, the right production, the right song material. It's all of that that goes into it. It's not to say their albums were bad at all, quote honestly I found good tracks on every single Idols' albums. It's who picks what and who allows them to shine true. A lot of times they don't have a lot of faith in the artistic direction. The second go around you can impart your vision. That's why the call it the sophomore slump. For these kids it's already the sophomore slump when they put their first album out, because they're being compared with being the winner!
According to Simon, he'd say it different: Taylor should never have won. He wasn't a fan. To read the rest of Paula Abdul's interview click here.

Missing Taylor Hicks?
Taylor is on break writing music for his new CD. No news and no concerts is giving us all Taylor Hicks Withdrawl. We are missing Taylor. So I have decided what I will be doing, while Taylor is taking a much needed break and writing some new music for a new CD, for us all to enjoy.
I am going to start posting a video of a Taylor preformance on American Idol, there will also be a video from the original artist. Lets discuss Taylor's performance. We can discuss his performance verses the orginal or just leave a comment with what ever the videos make you think about.

First here is Elton John singing "Levon"
And now here Taylor Hicks singing "Levon"
And I can't resist here is Sam Cooke "A Change is Gonna Come"
Here is Ray Charles Singing "Swanee River" I could not find a video of it. So I created my own. So Glad my record collection contained this one.
And here is Taylor's Audition singing A Change is Gonna Come and Swanee River

American Idol Season 6 - There is no Taylor Hicks
American Idol Season 6, Is there a Taylor Hicks this year? That is a definite no! At least that is my opinion. I have seen no one thus far that has even half the talent, charisma or likeability that our man Hicks had. For that matter I have seen no one that has as much talent as the top 12 in season five had. There is no one for me that I can say yes I want to see more of them. That may change as the show progresses but as of right now I don’t see that happening. This time last season I knew there would be several to make it in the music business no matter what. I had my favs by this time last season.
Ace Young, Mandisa, Kellie Pickler, Lisa Tucker, Paris and of course Taylor Hicks, were my top 6 picks, though from the beginning I wanted Taylor to win and he did. I grew to also like Elliot a lot. Chris I knew would go further also even though he wasn’t and still isn’t, the style I like.
This year I just am not into it like I was last year. Even with Season 4 I had early people I really liked such as Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice and Constantine. Maybe I am just Idoled out. It may be because last year with Taylor Hicks was the first year I really got into the show and voted and cheered along with Taylor and then he won. Maybe my Idol has already won and I just don’t care to find another. I don’t know what it is and maybe my opinion will change but right now Idol is so boring I really don’t care to watch until Taylor is on the show.
It could also be the fact that Simon has said Taylor Hicks shouldn’t have won, maybe its because he told some girl to stick gum on his face or because they seem to not acknowledge that we the American Viewers choose Taylor Hicks to win. If they want to act to like what we want doesn’t matter, than why should I even care to get into the show again? Why should I vote? Why should we invest our time and emotions in cheering someone on and making sure they win if American Idol will later say we were wrong? I know what I like and I know what I don’t like and no one can tell me I am wrong for my choices. Nor do they have that right.
I’m not saying there is no talent this year. There are a couple that may make me gain interest in the show again. I do not remember their names though. One is the navy guy who missed his wife giving birth to their baby because he was trying out for the show; the other is the woman who has a four year old little girl. Will I vote this year? I have no idea. If someone really catches my musical ear and makes me want to root for them then I may. Lets just hope the show gets better and the American Idol people acknowledge Taylor Hicks won and rightfully so, because he was the best.
